SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Another popular retailer is preparing to open its doors in South Lake Tahoe. Following last week’s grand opening of Target, Sierra will be holding a grand opening celebration on Saturday, April 26, at 8 a.m.
Formerly known as Sierra Trading Company, Sierra is part of the TJX global off-price retailer that also owns T.J. Maxx, Home Goods, and Marshalls. Sierra opened its first store in Reno in 1986. They joined the TJX family in 2012, and in 2018, shortened the name to Sierra.
Sierra is located in the old Kmart store adjacent to Raley’s at 1056 Emerald Bay Road at the South Y Center. Part of the grand opening festivities will be Sierra’s Active Wagon stationed in front of the store. The wagon will showcase 100 Sierra products that will be available for customers at the South Lake Tahoe store. The products include kayaks, sleeping bags, yard games, hiking boots, yoga mats, running shoes, and more.
Guests can also enter “Sierra Sweeps” by spinning a wheel and participating in other games to get the chance to win gift cards, merchandise and more. Sierra officials also said one lucky winner will walk away with a $500 Sierra gift card if they can guess the height of the active wagon and its stack.
“We are thrilled to be opening our first store in California and bring our off-price shopping experience to the South Lake Tahoe community!” said Amanda Johnson, assistant vice president and marketing director at Sierra. “The new store will allow residents to explore our diverse range of spring gear and apparel to make living an active lifestyle easier than ever. At Sierra, our goal is to provide communities with quality active and outdoor apparel, footwear, and gear at accessible prices, allowing shoppers to get moving in the way that suits them best.”
The store will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
They are almost fully staffed, but Sierra is still looking for some team members. Visit https://www.tjx.com/careers/ to apply.
The adjacent new stores, Five Below and Ulta, are not opening at this time. Five Below could be open by the end of May, and no word on Ulta at this time.
