VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. - The Luck of the Irish Mystery Train is coming back to the Virginia Truckee Railroad, and this time it’s a Miner Murder! Get ready for some interactive fun on Saturday, March 16, and help solve a mystery.

History tells us that the Miners of the Comstock were a rough and tumble group, hard at work underground mining for gold during the day and carousing at the Virginia City bars at night. Someone was bound to get murdered, and you get to help us find out “who done it”!

Artists sought to paint murals inside USFS restrooms at Lake Tahoe to inspire stewardship

TAHOE CITY, Calif. The Tahoe Fund and USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) have announced a new collaboration. They are looking for community-based artists to “beautify” the blank interiors of the restrooms at the Stateline Fire Lookout Trail in Crystal Bay, the Logan Shoals Vista Point on Tahoe’s East Shore, and the Tallac Historic Site on the South Shore.

They hope murals depicting Tahoe’s plants, animals, and beautiful landscapes will reduce vandalism, and inspire people to take care of Tahoe.

National Forest Foundation and U.S. Forest Service launch "Nature Connects Us" campaign

The National Forest Foundation (NFF), the congressionally-chartered nonprofit working to improve and restore the health of the 193-million-acre National Forest System, and USDA Forest Service announced Tuesday the “Nature Connects Us” outreach campaign. This sparks the awakening and strengthening of all peoples’ connection to national forests and grasslands.

This campaign is grounded in honoring ancestral tribal homelands through respectful and mindful visitor experiences and was born out of the need to grow and understand the respect that public lands require on a deeper level.

Two new shows have been added to the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harvey's Tahoe: Dan + Shay, and Lake Tahoe is for Lovers. Country music stars Dan + Shay embark on their Heartbreak on the Map Tour this month, and it has been extended into the summer. The three-time Grammy Award winners will have Jake Owen and Dylan Marlowe on the tour with them.

Their Lake Tahoe stop is Sunday, September 15 at 7 p.m. Dan + Shay will be the new coaches on The Voice for the upcoming season.

Five ultra-athletes will retrace the steps of John "Snowshoe" Thompson's inaugural mail route which he began on January 3, 1856, from Placerville, Calif. to Genoa, Nev., 90 miles away and across the snowbound Sierra Nevada.

The Snowshoe Thompson Expedition team will complete their journey over five days and carry a GPS tracker enabling live updates of their progress which followers can track here.

The Studio of South Lake Tahoe has been chosen to represent the Northern California region at the prestigious international dance festival, Dance Excellence, held in Los Angeles from March 31- April 6, 2024. South Tahoe High School Cheer and Dance teams win big at Northern Nevada Cheer and Dance Invitational

The Cheer Team performed exceptionally, earning a well-deserved 3rd place trophy. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - "You bet on us, so we placed a bet for you," said the favors at the September 2023 wedding of locals Matt and Jessica Grime at the 4H Camp in Stateline.

What was that bet you ask?

The Grimes purchased 180 $2 tickets at the Harveys Lake Tahoe sportsbook for the San Francisco 49ers to win the Super Bowl. They made the bets on June 7, so each $2 bet would pay out $17 extra, for a total of $19, with the +850 money line it came with should the 49ers win on Sunday.

Tahoe Expedition Academy launches new speaker series

The event featured an array of performances by bands Decades from Chico and from NBC’s The Voice, Kristen Brown.

As the clock hit 9 p.m. (midnight in New York), the fireworks display with the gondola coming down the mountain thrilled those watching.

January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Did you know human trafficking is often a crime that is hidden in plain sight and is only visible to those who know the signs and indicators? There are also many myths regarding trafficking, which is why educating ourselves is critical. Many believe traffickers are usually strangers to the victim when, in fact, that’s the most uncommon situation.

Current statistics show that around 42 percent of trafficking victims were brought into trafficking by a member of their own families, and 39 percent were recruited via an intimate partner or a marriage proposition.
