LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - From athlete panel sessions about backcountry safety to expert talks about snowpack science and the impacts of wildfires on snow conditions, the third annual Tahoe Backcountry Safety Awareness Week is chock full of in-person and virtual events curated by Take Care Tahoe that focuses on the dangers of the backcountry. From December 12-17, 2022, just as avalanche danger will be increasing in the area due to the weekend storm, both novice and experienced backcountry users will have opportunities to learn how to safely recreate in the backcountry this winter.

The Eastern Nevada History series at the Wylder Hotel Hope Valley will continue on Sunday, December 11 with a living history presentation of Snowshoe Thompson.

Thompson was known as the Mailman of the Sierra as he carried the mail across the Sierra Nevada winter snows for 20 years. He would travel the 180-mile round trip in just five days on his hand-crafted snow skates (skis) with nothing more than a jacket, dried meat, matches, and his 80-pound bag of mail.

The program starts at 1 p.m., is free, open to the public, and is presented inside the Resort’s heated tent.

The Art of Coaching Apprenticeship™ will be held at PT Revolution in South Lake Tahoe March 25-26, 2023. This is a highly interactive two-day experience that helps today’s coaches, leaders and educators gain the skills needed to adapt to and lead in a changing world. The 8th annual Tahoe Film Fest can be enjoyed December 1-4 at different theaters and even at an outdoor ice rink. This is a welcome addition to the cultural atmosphere in one of the most spectacular places to visit. All proceeds will benefit UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC).

What is it?

The first all-electric vehicle from Genesis, the luxury subdivision of Hyundai/Kia. Slotting in below the GV70 and GV80 SUVs in terms of size, the GV60 isn't any cheaper, but it is wildly more powerful in this spec due to its all-electric powertrain that makes 429 horsepower (and 483 temporarily for extra boost). Does this compact luxury crossover make any sense, though?

Take a break from election returns and join them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. when Professor Peter Goin presents Lake Tahoe: A Rephotographic History, 1860-1960.

What is it?

The Lexus UX 250h is a compact crossover based on Toyota's bargain basement C-HR (they share the same 103.9" wheelbase), albeit with the Lexus-luxury treatment and a hybrid powertrain. I can't stress 'compact' quite enough when describing this vehicle, especially when it comes to the inside. The as-tested price for this 'Luxury' trim UX (aren't all Lexus vehicle luxury by definition?) is a whopping $44,115. Be prepared, this review is not going to be entirely nice. At all.
