A Final Wave for 'The Waver' Ed Carlson today in Reno

Fans of the late Ed Carlson, known as "The Waver" to Northern Nevadans, will pay tribute to his life and the many lives he touched at noon today, New Year's Day, at Reno City Plaza for a short memorial service, according to a news release.
Following the service attendees will then walk one mile south on South Virginia Street while waving to oncoming traffic as The Waver did for some many years before returning to City Plaza.
The Waver, 75, who passed away last Friday, walked the 30-mile stretch of US 395 between Reno and Carson City while waving to oncoming motorists with a smile for more than 30 years, from 1974 into the early part of the last decade.
Carlson told the Reno Gazette-Journal, just a week before he died, that he estimated, "In all those years, I walked the equivalent of 10 times around the world."
Aside from his daily walk, The Waver shared the following inspirational poem with the many people he met over his lifetime:
We Go Through Lifetimes Seeking
And Searching For The Answer
And Then One Day We Are
Awakened To Our Perfection
My Dearest Ones, It Is Us, The
Power Of The Universe Dwells
Within Us And When We Are
Able To Love All As One, We
Become Aware Of Our Own
Divinity
So Be At Peace My Brothers
And Sisters Because Everything
Is In Perfect Order
Our Will Be Done In The
Outer As It Is Within
I Love You
