Woman dies after South Lake Tahoe assault; Suspect arrested.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A woman has died of injuries sustained in an assault in a home on Carson Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.

At 2:33 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2019, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) were dispatched to a call about an assault. Upon arrival they found a woman with major injuries and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue transported her to Barton Hospital.

She was then transported via medical helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno where she later died.

A 71-year-old man was initially arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon in this case and those charges are expected to change. His name has not been released. The victim's name also has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

This case is not linked to the two recent homicides in Gardnerville, Nevada according to Sgt. Travis Cabral.
