Search continues for missing Sugar Bowl ski instructor

The search for a missing Sugar Bowl ski instructor has been called off for the evening by the Placer County Sheriff's Office.

More than 50 people spent the day searching for 23-year-old Carson May who hasn't been seen since Thursday when he went skiing after work.

Searchers, with the help of search and rescue dogs, have been focusing their search on the back side of the mountain where the sheriff's office has been able to get pings from May's cell phone.

After May was skiing he was supposed to get a ride home with a friend Thursday night; but when he didn't show, the friend didn't think anything was wrong and went home.

May wasn't reported missing until Friday at 10:00 a.m. when friends realized he never showed up to work and his belongings were still in his locker at the resort.

According to Sugar Bowl's snow report, the ski resort saw 5 inches of snow overnight Thursday at the summit and 3 inches of snow at the base. Temperatures were in the 20s during the overnight hours.

Search-and-rescue crews are scheduled to search the back side of Sugar Bowl ski resort at 6:00 a.m. Sunday according to Lt. Troy Sander of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
