Murillo leaving the helm at Lake Tahoe Community College

The Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees is meeting in closed session tonight to discuss the search for the school's next president following the announcement that Superintendent/President Dr. Kindred Murillo will be leaving her post.

Murillo, who started at the college in July, 2011, requested the Board meet and discuss an exit date for her which would take place sometime in the next 18 months.

During the January 19 meeting, the Board will also discuss a timeline for the process of finding Murillo's replacement.

“The Board and Dr. Murillo will work together to construct an exit strategy that works well for both the college and for her," said LTCC Board President and longtime college trustee Dr. Fritz Wenck. "While we knew this day would come eventually, the Board is still sorry to see it arrive. Dr. Murillo has been an outstanding leader for the college. The trustees will structure a recruitment plan to help ensure that the next president is just as committed to the college and town as she is.”

“I have loved the work at LTCCD, the faculty, staff, Board, LTCC Foundation Board, and the community of South Lake Tahoe," Dr. Murillo noted. "But when you are severely allergic to pine trees, sometimes you have to make tough choices.”

In addition to health concerns, Dr. Murillo also noted that a good leader knows when the right time to leave is, and she believes her work at the college is nearly completed.

“While there is always more work to do, I feel good about the leadership team that’s in place at the college, the faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees. They are all dedicated to student success and South Lake Tahoe,” Dr. Murillo said. “The college is well positioned for the future and is more than ready to take a leadership role in the community.”
