Jamie Anderson of South Lake Tahoe and one of the most successful female snowboarders won her 16th X Games medal, winning the bronze on Thursday in Women's Snowboard Big Air.
Jamie took a hard fall during one run, landing on her face and leaving her with bruises that were visible when interviewed on television Friday. Half of her female competitors in Big Air didn't finish after they too crashed.
"We were hoping they would listen to the riders and take into account our feedback on the jump and unfortunately they didn’t," Anderson told her Instagram followers. "I pushed myself even though I knew it wasn’t feeling right, cab 9 was fine, but when I went and dialed a front 7, I had no choice but to go for the 10 (so I thought). It felt terrible to have a bad crash in front of everyone, especially my parents watching at home."
Anderson was scheduled to compete Saturday in Women's Snowboard Slopestyle but pulled herself out after the crash.
South Lake Tahoe's Maddie Bowman ended in the fifth spot in the Women's Ski SuperPipe, an event she has medaled in each of the X Games since 2012, winning five golds, two silver, and two bronze.
David Wise of Reno, a four-time X Game Gold Medalist, won bronze in Aspen in the Men's Ski SuperPipe on Thursday.
