South Tahoe High Students Collecting Jeans for Homeless Youth

In a quest to make a difference, South Tahoe High School senior Brooke Georguson is collecting jeans that will be donated to homeless youth in the Reno/Tahoe community. On top of that goal, Brooke wants to collect the most jeans in the region so her school will be awarded a $10,000 grant.

Aeropostale, DoSomething.org and Fifth Harmony have joined forces to sponsor a national "Jeans for Teens" project. Brooke will take all of the jeans she collects to Reno's Aeorpostale store. There, they will be counted, cleaned and distributed throughout the area.

There are two drop off locations in South Lake Tahoe, one in the high school's main office and the other at Grocery Outlet on Highway 50 starting on Friday. Jeans of all sizes will be accepted, from kids to adults. The bins will be in place until February 16.

When asked how she became involved in Jeans for Teens, Brooke said her mother saw a story about it, so she researched the program and presented to her Principal and the school's ASB.

Georguson will be continuing her volunteer spirit after graduation later this year as she heads to Costa Rica to volunteer for the summer. Upon return she'll head to the University of California to study Neuroscience.

By just having the jeans drive, South Tahoe High is automatically entered into a contest to win $5,000.

One in 45 children experience homelessness in America each year, with a few thousand homeless kids in the Reno, Carson City and Lake Tahoe communities.
