Judge Glasson (ret.) selected by Nevada Supreme Court as senior justice of the peace

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Recently retired Judge Richard Glasson has been selected by the Nevada Supreme Court to serve as senior justice of the peace.

Having worked since he was 14, Glasson said he was looking forward to "just goofing off" after retiring from the court.

"But being a judge is psychically rewarding," said Glasson. "All the rules of evidence, procedure, and civil/criminal law take up so much space on the hard drive between my ears that it's tough to just walk away entirely. My work as a mediator and arbitrator has increased now that I am free of a daily court calendar."

A senior justice of the peace may serve temporarily in any justice court in Nevada, regardless of which county the senior justice resides. They are contacted directly by the judge in need of assistance, whether it is to cover a vacation, or when there is a conflict of interest, among other reasons.

"Based on his reputation and experience, I'm sure Judge Glasson will be in great demand to serve as a senior judge in justice courts throughout Nevada," said Tahoe Township Justice of the Peace Michael Johnson. "I have already requested Judge Glasson to fill in for me in the Tahoe Justice Court when I am attending judicial training later this year. When he returns to visit the bench here, I have full confidence he will adjudicate cases with the same high level of skill and integrity he did when he was the sitting judge of this court."

Glasson stopped by his old Tahoe Justice Court on Tuesday to be sworn in by Johnson.
