Historic Lake Tahoe ranch listed for $98 million

Update: This property has sold.

If you've been hankering for a getaway at Lake Tahoe and have $98 million to spare, you're in luck.

Check out Shakespeare Ranch, which takes up 133 acres along 423 feet of shoreline. It's named for Shakespeare Rock, which overlooks the property and is said to resemble the playwright.

Businessman Duane Bliss helped settle the town of Glenbrook, Nevada, in 1860. After the demise of the area's mining and logging industries, the area became a tourist stop, attracting such visitors as President Ulysses S. Grant, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Clark Gable and Rita Hayworth, according to a news release.
The modern history of the ranch dates to 1984, when Larry Ruvo bought a condo in Glenbrook. He subsequently bought up more land, including 17 New England-style guest homes named for Shakespeare characters, and a roughly 5,000-square-foot barn erected in 1873. The site also includes a 397-foot shared pier with boat lift, five boat buoys, a pool building, a tasting cellar, a greenhouse, an art loft, stables and rodeo grounds.

The annual "Glenbrook Rodeo" dates to the 1940s and was revived by the current owners in 2000. It features bull and bronco riding, ribbon roping, barrel racing, carnival games, a dinner prepared by restaurateur Emeril Lagasse and a surprise A-list entertainer, such as (in past years) Robin Williams, Jay Leno, Lionel Richie, Kenny Loggins and the '70s-era band America.
