Head-on collision in South Lake Tahoe sends six to area hospitals

Update 6:45 p.m.: The driver of one of the vehicles, a 29-year-old woman from Stateline, Nevada has been arrested on charges of a Felony DUI and is in the El Dorado County Jail on $125,000 bail.

She was driving a Range Rover eastbound when, for reasons unknown at this time, she traveled into the westbound lane, striking a BMW with five occupants, ages 19-31, all from the Bay Area. The Range Rover was traveling about 40 mph at the time of impact according to the CHP. This is the speed limit at that area of Pioneer Trail.

Witnesses has called law enforcement prior to the crash to report a reckless driver. The CHP report did not specify whether the woman was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but the matter is still under investigation.

The current condition of the crash victims is unknown.

Two people were airlifted to a Reno Hospital after being injured in a two-car collision on Pioneer Trail at Vanderhoof Drive on Saturday, February 3 just after 11:00 a.m.

The head-on crash also caused injuries to four others who were transported to Barton Hospital.

Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) responded along with help from South Tahoe Fire Rescue, Meeks Bay FPD, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol (CHP), and the Cal Tahoe JPA.

LVFPD Battalion Chief Brad Zlendick said the two transported via helicopter had serious injuries. He said there were no fires as a result of the collision though one of the cars looked charred in the photo above.

The collision is under investigation by the CHP and no other information is available at this time.
