Live Violence Free: Reflecting on 2021 and our hope for 2022

As we move along in 2022, Live Violence Free continues to build more strength and resiliency. After 2020, our community moved into 2021 with a sense of hope and optimism. Little did we know that 2021 would offer us challenges that went far beyond the initial COVID pandemic. As we continued to adapt and move forward, our community was faced with the impacts of the Caldor Fire. Despite the many challenges we experienced during the wildfire evacuation, we are proud to say that our services continued. Our resilient staff worked diligently to assist our clients with their housing, legal proceedings, basic needs, therapy, and parenting needs. 2021 showed us how resiliency and community make the most significant impact.

Natural disasters and public health emergencies are times of increased stress and vulnerability. Communities often face food insecurities, familial tensions, displacement, disrupted social services, and health problems - all of which accelerate the likelihood and intensity of violence and abuse. As we navigated through these challenges, we were reminded of the importance of community. Our partners came together to address the most critical needs of our community, and we are grateful for the collaboration. The value of support, connection, and shared experiences has never been more important.

In 2021, we served our community through meals, therapy sessions, crisis response, prevention education classes, legal support, and housing - culminating in reaching over 2,800 community members.

By working together, we can ensure that everyone in our community thrives. We thank everyone who has volunteered time or generously donated during these difficult times. Together we can empower choices and inspire change.

This year, I hope 2022 brings everyone a moment to reflect and refresh. I am optimistic our community will continue to build strength and resiliency together.

With much gratitude,
Chelcee Thomas
