Storm heads out of Lake Tahoe, leaving behind several feet of snow

As residents in the Lake Tahoe area shovel out of their homes, ski resorts are boasting impressive totals of powder underneath clearing skies.

The Lake Tahoe ski resorts are reporting up to five feet of new snow in the last seven days. If the month of March is a normal month with heavy snow, most resorts should see record breaking snow fall by the end of the season.

The National Weather Service in Reno forecast, there is a 20-40 percent chance of snow in South Lake Tahoe through Saturday. A small system passes on Friday, with a stronger one coming Sunday and Monday.

Today - Scattered snow showers, mainly before 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 30. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight - Isolated snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday - Scattered snow showers, mainly before 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday Night - Isolated snow showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 10. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Friday - Partly sunny, with a high near 33. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Friday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Saturday - A 30 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 32. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
