4:15PM Update: One person died in this morning's fire at a South Lake Tahoe apartment building.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) responded to an emergency fire call at 11:17 a.m. Monday. Upon arrival they found six residents hanging out of windows on the 2nd floor and they were all rescued by SLTFR. One resident was able to get out of the 1st floor unit.
A second resident on the first floor was pulled out and CPR was immediately started. Sadly, they succumbed to their injuries.
"Although one resident succumbed to his injuries, the quick response and hard work from our police officers, our firefighters, and firefighters from our neighbors, six people are alive and well," said SLTFR Chief Clive Savacool. "This fire could have been much worse."
Fire was contained to one unit on the bottom floor and the other three units suffered heavy smoke damage.
Five of the residents work at Hard Rock Casino Hotel and the are being given accommodations there, according to Chief Savacool. The others were given rooms at a motel adjacent to where they were living.
The identity of the deceased person has not been released and the cause is under investigation.
