Barton Health continues work with top U.S. athletes at Lake Tahoe center

Barton’s Tahoe Center for Orthopedics has partnered with the world’s top winter snow sports athletes for 2013 as part of its “Heal Like a Champion” advertising campaign, showcasing United States Ski, Snowboard and Free Skiing (USSA) champions, TCO patients and Lake Tahoe locals, Daron Rahlves, Marco Sullivan, Sho Kashima and Elena Hight.

Designed with the athlete in mind, the campaign highlights world class athletes who have chosen the TCO orthopedic care team to get them back into competition safely and quickly.

The new Ad campaign features former men's U.S. Downhill, Alpine and Skier Cross Olympian, Daron Rahlves. In 2010, Rahlves was treated by TCO orthopedic surgeon, Terrence Orr for a dislocated hip which occurred during a competition.

“He’s (Dr. Orr) really cutting-edge and I was back on my skis in two weeks and competing in three,” Rahlves said. “He really reduced my recovery time. When you travel someplace new, it’s not only imperative to have someone experienced who really knows the team, but someone you trust and has been around for a while.”

Also highlighted in the campaign is U.S. Ski Team member and Super G and downhill skier, Marco Sullivan, along with snowboarder, Elena Hight, who last year, was the first woman to ever land a double backside alley-oop rodeo in a half-pipe, taking women’s snowboarding progression to a new level. Additionally, freestyle skier, Sho Kashima - recently making a comeback from an injury - has won three National Championships in dual moguls.

As part of TCO’s continued involvement with USSA and the South Lake Tahoe Community, the center is the lead medical provider at this year’s U.S. Freestyle Championships event at Heavenly Mountain Resort, March 29 – 31. Event medical directors and TCO physicians, Drs. Orr and Jonathan Finnoff, are responsible for overseeing all aspects of event emergency medical coverage, including athlete and spectator care.

“We are excited to provide medical coverage for such a high profile event in our community,” said Finnoff.

“Our orthopedic care team, including orthopedic physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists and additional support staff will be at each event providing medical coverage,” he explained.

Drs. Orr and Finnoff are no strangers to high profile winter events. Both provide care for USSA athletes and recently returned from Sochi, Russia, where they underwent pre-event medical training for the 2014 Winter Olympic games.
