CAPP Fund created to help South Lake Tahoe high school students with college application costs

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A new nonprofit organization based on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe has been formed to help high school seniors apply for colleges by picking up the application fees.

The CAPP Fund was opened in 2020 with a goal of increasing access to higher education by helping high school seniors at both South Tahoe High School and George Whittell High School with the costs of a four-year college application. Each application costs between $60 and $100 and the costs can add up when seeking the college(s) of their choice.

Kathy Haven with founding board members Cristi Creegan and Jen Seely started the organization and are now seeking donations to get the process for the Class of 2021 seniors up and running.

Donations are already coming in. For those who want to donate can visit the CAPP website at https://www.cappfund.org/ or make out a check payable to the CAPP Fund and mail to 1378 Meadow Crest Dr., South Lake Tahoe, Calif. 96150. All donations are tax-deductible. Their goal is to raise $10,000 for this coming fall so that all seniors at the local high schools interested in furthering their education after high school with a 4-year degree can do so.

This summer CAPP will be actively seeking volunteers to both held students with their applications as well as reading them prior to awards.

"Every little piece we can do as a community to help our students be successful as they graduate from high school, is one more obstacle or barrier that can be broken down," said Haven.
