Barton Health earns core certification for spine, total knee, and hip joint replacement surgeries

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Barton Health has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Core Certification in spine surgery, and total knee and hip joint replacement surgery. The two-year recertification demonstrates Barton’s continuous compliance with performance standards and efforts to provide high-quality, compassionate care to the Tahoe community.

"This gold seal is a symbol of Barton’s commitment to providing safe, quality care for our patients with excellent care coordination and consistently positive outcomes," said Dr. Matthew Wonnacott, Chief Medical Officer with Barton Health. “With the recent addition of Mako SmartRobotics, the latest technology in joint replacement surgery, our patients gain access to a robust joint replacement program, driven by our expert team of surgeons and medical staff who work collaboratively to ensure our patients get back to what they love doing safely and quickly."

The Joint Commission is the country’s health care quality accrediting body providing objective, third-party medical expert evaluation for program compliance. They perform a rigorous on-site review of care programs by reviewing disease-specific care standards, surgery requirements, and data-driven processes, measuring the cohesiveness of the clinical team, and assessing the collaborative approach to orthopedic care.

Barton’s orthopedic care was also recently recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals in Orthopedics by the Women’s Choice Award. This award ranks 4,729 U.S. hospitals offering orthopedics services, recognizing those with the highest safety ratings for safe surgical practices and lowest rates for complications and infections.
