Roof buckling over South Lake Tahoe Raley's at Village Center prompts closure

SUNDAY UPDATE: There was a further collapse of the roof over Raley's in South Lake Tahoe overnight, leaving the inside of the store unstable. Other businesses are still open in the Village Center as the only affected area at this time is the grocery store on one wing, and Sidestreet Boutique on the other.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The winter's heavy loads of snow on South Lake Tahoe buildings continues to take its toll.

On Saturday morning, first responders headed over to the Raley's store in the Village Center at Stateline after receiving a call about concerns over the ceiling. South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) said there has been structural buckling on the roof above Raley's and the business has been evacuated for the safety of employees and patrons.

According to SLTFR Chief Jim Drennan, both Raley's and the adjoining art gallery, Wyland Galleries, will be closed as issues are addressed. He said the roof over Blue Dog Pizza has been cleared, as is the portion over Sports LTD and they are okay to open.

The other wing of the center has many businesses open including the hardware store and Marcus Ashley Gallery. Sidestreet Boutique closed several days ago after a partial collapse of the roof.
