Four hospitalized after South Lake Tahoe stabbing

10:06 p.m. update: The South Lake Tahoe Police Department has released an update on Friday night's stabbing at the Transit Center at the Y.

Originally we were told the suspect was born in 1945, instead, he is a 45-year-old male.

Names are being withheld at this point due to the fluid nature of this investigation. It started as a verbal argument over cigarettes between the 45-year-old male (Suspect), a 48-year-old male (Victim A) and a 26-year-old male (Victim B). The argument turned violent when the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Victim A in the chest. Victim B and a 46-year-old male (Victim C) jumped into the fight to try and disarm the suspect. Victim B sustained cuts to his hands while getting the knife away from the suspect and Victim C sustained a blunt force injury to his chest.

The initial stabbing victim was transported to Barton Hospital and rushed into surgery with life-threatening injuries. He is now in recovery and is expected to survive.

The suspect was also transported to Barton Hospital and has been admitted. He is currently in stable condition. Victim B is being treated and is still in the emergency room at this time. Victim C was treated and released.

This is an active investigation.

All four men involved are South Lake Tahoe residents and were waiting for the Warm Room to open according to Sgt. Shannon Laney of SLTPD. Since March 1, SLTPD has responded to eight calls for service at the South Y Transit Center related to the local homeless population. The calls were for fighting, public intoxication and disturbing the peace.

Anyone with information related to this case is requested to call the South Lake Tahoe Detective Division at (530) 542-6100.

A 45-year-old homeless man got into a fight with three other homeless men in South Lake Tahoe Friday evening, sending all four to Barton Hospital with injuries.

At 5:09 p.m. on March 24, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received a call of a stabbing at the bus stop at the Y. According to SLTPD Sgt. Shannon Laney, the suspect got into a fight with a 49-year-old man, then pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest. Two other men in the area, ages 27 and 46, jumped in to try and help the injured man. One received blunt force trauma to the chest from the fight, and the other received cuts on his hands.

The 49-year-old man is at Barton with severe injuries.

At this time, no other details are available. Laney said he will be updating the information once he checks in with detectives talking to the victims and suspect at the hospital. No names are available at this time.

The bus stop at the Y has been the scene of several fights among the homeless population lately, prompting transportation officials to close their office at the station in the early afternoon.

This is a developing story.
