Christening ceremony for Ms Lisa, the South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue boat

In South Lake Tahoe, the name Lisa Maloff is synonymous with philanthropy. She has earned the name "Angel of Tahoe" through her large donations, including $10 million to Barton Memorial Hospital for their new Robert Maloff Center of Excellence (Wellness and Sports Performance Center) and $5.8 million to Lake Tahoe Community College for the Lisa Maloff University Center. To date, Mrs. Maloff has donated $35 million in the past four years.

Her donations can be seen throughout the community, including the purchase and care of South Lake Tahoe Police K-9s, helping with a new fire boat for the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department, paying for a new football field at Whittell High School, buying Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe two vehicles, a donation to Tahoe Youth & Family Services and purchase of toys given to 100 local children during their Christmas Party.

Now one can add to that list a new $390,000 fire boat for South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR).

On Monday, April 2, 2018, the Ms Lisa was christened during a ceremony in South Lake Tahoe attended by Lisa Maloff, firefighters, city staff and many other locals.

"This is a monumental day," said SLTFR Chief Jeff Meston. He said the department has been without a rescue boat since beavers decided to eat the last one. Fire and safety crews for the City have responded to many rescues on the lake, and the Ms Lisa will help get them back on the water to help once again.

"This will serve a lot of good," said Lisa after breaking the champagne bottle over the boat that bears her name.

The SLTFR Chaplain Jon Engles blessed the boat. "Keep the waters calm and the boat straight," he said. Engles has been the department's chaplain since January, 2017.

At this time the department is trying to find a permanent home on the water where it can be easily accessed for emergencies.
