South Lake Tahoe Community Comes Through For Ryan Wallace; Receives New Leg Next Week

Just one month ago the plea was made to the South Lake Tahoe community: Help Ryan Wallace raise $25,000 to replace his prosthetic leg.
As of today, the goal was met with the final boost made by the students at South Tahoe Middle School where Wallace was Wrestling Coach and Instructional Aide. "A Minute to Win It For Ryan" was presented to the kids as a way to help their mentor.
The kids passed the hat in every class for the first minute of the school day April 2 - 4. The first day exceeded expectations with $520.53 raised in 60 seconds. The following two days were more of the same and the kids raised a total of $1,500.78 which was the amount needed to make Ryan's dream a reality.
"The support has been amazing," Ryan told South Tahoe Now. "It made me smile and cry at the same time." He said he's missed coaching and is looking forward to getting back to it, as well as his other jobs. "I'm going to enjoy those jobs more than I ever did before," Wallace said.
"I have no choice but to be a positive part of the community when I get back," the 30 year old South Lake Tahoe native
continued.
As earlier reported, Wallace needed to raise $25,000, half of the cost of a new leg. Anchor Orthotics & Prosthetics of Sacramento is covering the rest.
Ryan is headed there next week to be fitted for the new leg. He had his right leg amputated after he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone disease in his teens. His current prosthetic leg has been a major source of trouble for a long time. It has recently bound him to a wheel chair as the extra use of his "good leg" caused it to have major problems.
