USFS closures at spots around Lake Tahoe, not just SR89 corridor

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Earlier this week the USFS Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit announced all national forest recreation areas and sites in the South Shore Recreation Corridors were closed to the public with fines for individuals or groups disobeying the order.

They said the closures were to keep in alignment with current federal, state and local guidance for social distancing and to ensure the health and safety of its employees, visitors, and volunteers.

According to USFS Pacific Southwest Region, the use of all developed recreation sites in their jurisdiction are off-limits to the public from March 28 through April 30, 2020, due to health and safety concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus and COVID-19.

The following National Forest areas around Lake Tahoe are closed to the public for the rest of the month, at least:

• Zephyr Cove and Round Hill Resorts
• Heavenly Mountain Resort
• William Kent Campground
• Kaspian Picnic Area
• Sawmill Pond
• Logan Shoals
• Newhall
• Secret Harbor
• Chimney Beach
• Stateline Lookout (North Shore)
• 64 Acres (SR89/SR28)
• Meeks Bay Resort

And Nevada Beach.

These are in addition to those announced earlier this week:

· Pope-Baldwin National Recreation Bike Path
· Pope Beach
· Camp Richardson Resort
· Camp Richardson Corral
· Fallen Leaf Campground/Beach
· Tallac Historic Site/Beach
· Kiva Picnic Area/Beach
· Kiva Beach/Tallac Point
· Taylor Creek Visitor Center
· Baldwin Beach

A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both. 16 USC 55 I and 18 USC 3559, 3571, and 3581.
