Portion of Barbara Avenue in South Lake Tahoe to close for Greenway project

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Barbara Avenue between Lodi Avenue and Sierra Boulevard will be closing April 27 through October 15 as it will be a stating area for the construction of the South Tahoe Greenway Shared Use Trail.

This is the same area used for staging on the City of South Lake Tahoe's Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets project in 2019.

El Dorado County's Department of Transportation today announced that its contractor will require the temporary closure as they work on phases 1b and 2 of the Greenway, as described earlier today on South Tahoe Now - http://southtahoenow.com/story/04/22/2020/construction-new-phases-south-tahoe-greenway-shared-use-tr....

The closure is necessary to ensure motorist and worker safety as well as the storage of materials and equipment. A section of Barbara Avenue between Sierra Blvd. and Martin Ave. may also be impacted as a result of the construction activity and subject to daily closures. Advanced warning and/or detour signs along with message boards will be installed by the contractor to inform the public.

Access for local residents and visitors, as well as emergency personnel and law enforcement to streets on either side of the closure will be via Fountain Avenue and Sierra Boulevard. Appropriate signage will be installed to notify of the temporary closure. Motorists are also advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area in order to arrive at their destinations on time.

"The County sincerely appreciates the cooperation and patience of motorists that use these roadways and we apologize for any inconvenience as a result of this road closure," they said in a press release.
