South Lake Tahoe Drug Take Back Day during Earth Day on Saturday

Event Date:
April 27, 2019 - 10:00am

It is National Drug Take Back Day on April 27 which also happens to be the Earth Day celebration in South Lake Tahoe, so why not combine the two events?

The South Tahoe Drug Free Coalition and South Lake Tahoe Police Department have joined forces to help residents dispose of their unused prescriptions, no questions asked.

Stop by their booth and the free Earth Day event where not only are drugs accepted for destruction, but they'll also be giving away free lock-bags for prescriptions and free Deterra bags that neutralize the potency of pills and liquids, making them safe to be disposed of.

According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, six million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

Earth Day is on Saturday, April 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bijou Community Park, South Lake Tahoe.

For those unable to attend there are three pill disposal areas year-round on the South Shore: The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and SLT Police Department on the corner of Johnson Boulevard and Al Tahoe Boulevard, and at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at Stateline, Nevada.
