Two colleges to be housed in LTCC University Center in Fall 2018

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Students will soon be able to graduate from South Tahoe High, move into Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) for their associate degree, then head over to the new Lisa Maloff University Center for a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts, Global Business Management, Psychology, and possibly in the near future, Ski Resort Management.

Sierra Nevada College was the first school to offer four-year degrees at LTCC, and now there will be another.

During Tuesday's joint LTCC Board of Trustee / Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) board meeting, Brandman University was announced as the new local educational partner, bringing with them opportunities for students who want to head into teaching careers never before seen on the South Shore. Not only will they offer the bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, but also multi-subject teaching credentials for elementary teachers.

"We sought out Brandman so we could have the teacher–administrator hub at LTCC," said LTCC President/Superintendent Jeff DeFranco.

Brandman will also offer master's and doctoral degrees in education, a benefit for local teachers and others wanting to the next level.

"I am so excited about this", said Barbara Bannar, President of the LTUSD Board of Trustees.

The cost for Brandman will be $500 per credit for undergraduate classes, $640 a credit for graduate degrees, and $985 per credit for doctoral work. One benefit of being so close to LTCC will be the ability for students to save money by taking classes at both schools when available.

Brandman is accredited by the WSCUC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) and will offer face-to-face courses as well as online. They currently have 12,000 students in California and Washington, as well students in the military around the world. They are a division of Chapman College.

Brandman will also be looking for adjunct teachers for their eight-week quarters.

Staff will be at LTCC the first week of May to meet with students and the community about their new South Lake Tahoe programs. That schedule will be posted in South Tahoe Now as soon as available.
