Human trafficking presentation in South Lake Tahoe

Event Date:
May 18, 2018 - 6:00pm

Nationally recognized human trafficking consultant John Vanek will return to South Lake Tahoe for a May 18, 2018 presentation as a guest of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and Live Violence Free.

Vanek, an author and retired lieutenant of the San Jose Police Human Trafficking Task Force, will speak on that date at Sierra Community Church at 6:00 p.m. Vanek is a leadership, collaboration, and anti-human trafficking consultant and speaker working with law enforcement agencies, non-governmental and community-based organizations, academic institutions and private sector companies.

Vanek, who was on the task force from 2006 to 2011, wrote the book, What You Need to Know About Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery, was in South Lake Tahoe in 2016 when he spoke at the library with PATH, the South Lake Tahoe group, Partners Against Trafficking of Humans.

Vanek’s knowledge on trafficking and multidisciplinary task force leadership and operations have been utilized by the United States Department of Justice, the Office of the United States Attorneys, California’s Office of the Attorney General, California POST, the California District Attorneys Association, the National Law Enforcement Training Network, the Not For Sale Campaign, Police One, the Freedom Network Training Institute, and other governmental and private organizations.

An estimated 100,000 are trafficked annually for commercial sex in the United State with the most in California, with millions of victims around the world in this $32 billion a year global enterprise. PATH hosted a presentation earlier this year that informed many of how trafficking can be happening outside our doors.

Sierra Community Church is located at 1165 Sierra Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. Please note that real life cases will be presented and some material may not be suitable for children
