Viking Corner: This Week at South Tahoe High

At South Tahoe High School, students faced a surprisingly cold week with snowfall. Advanced placement testing finished, spirit week is about to begin, and sports teams reached the state championships.

Advanced placement tests ended this week with AP Language and Composition on Wednesday. Stress is relieved, as there are only finals left on June 17 and 18.

Next week is spirit week. With events, such as dodgeball, “manly volleyball” and dress up days, students get to show their school spirit as the school year wraps up.

Layne Hembree, president of the student body, wants to see people get in school spirit.

“We have been lagging and haven’t been spirited, I hope people participate,” said Hembree.

Spirit Commissioner Kaitlyn Friederici hopes to see a good turnout at the after-school events and the Powderpuff game.

“Versus week is always fun and I can’t wait for next week,” said Friederici.

In Athletics
The swim team competed at the regional championship last weekend. Boys finished in third place, girls in second place.

Ten swimmers qualified for the state championships this weekend, with junior Alex Otomo winning the regional championship in backstroke.

Boys golf team ended in fourth place at the state championship this week at the Genoa Lakes Golf Course. Sophomore Marcus Slack shot the lowest rounds for STHS with a score of 79 on the first day, followed 80 on the second day.

“My favorite part of the season was just being outside playing golf with new people,” said Slack, who’s setting higher goals and expectations for himself next year.
