"Compost Your Combustibles 2014" Takes Place at Heavenly's Boulder Parking Lot

Event Date:
May 24, 2014 - 9:00am

Free Drop Off of Combustibles For Nevada Residents

Clear out the combustibles from your yard and drop them off for free at the kickoff event being held for “Compost Your Combustibles 2014” at
Heavenly Boulder parking lot this Saturday, May 24th in recognition of Wildfire Awareness Month.” Drop off days will be held through the first Saturday in August.

Rake and remove pine needles and yard combustible waste to prepare your home in the case of wildfire.

The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District is hosting the event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise awareness on becoming a fire adaptive community.

Fire District staff and the Zephyr Fire Crew will provide wildfire landscape information. There will be a breakfast and BBQ lunch to welcome residents that participate in the opening day dropoff.

“Because of the importance of not only being aware but taking action to
adapt homes to our extreme fire environment the Tahoe Douglas Board of
Trustees issued a resolution that the entire month of May is Lake Tahoe Basin Wildfire Awareness Month” said TDFP Chief Ben Sharit.

“Fire Chiefs around Lake Tahoe are concerned about an extraordinarily dry
summer and the high risk of wildfire this year,” says Eric Guevin, Fire
Marshal of the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District. “There are easy
steps homeowners can take to reduce the fuels and reduce the risk of wildfire invading their property while increasing the safety of their family, and we have an exciting Kickoff event planned to help them learn how.”

Combustibles will be piled up and no plastic yard bags will be accepted. If you transport the items to the drop off area in bags you'll just need to empty them out.
