South Tahoe High Baseball Team Makes Best of First Trip to State Tournament

For the first time in school history, the South Tahoe High Vikings made it to the Nevada Baseball State Division 1-A Tournament.

The Vikings lost their opening game on Thursday to #1 seed in the tournament, Faith Lutheran of Las Vegas, by a score of 17-6. They bounced back for game 2 on Friday morning. They beat Chaparall High School of Las Vegas, 13-8.

With one win and one loss, they just had to win their second game on Friday to make it to the State finals. But, their opponent turned out to be the same team who beat them last week, Northern Nevada champs Churchill County High of Fallon.

The Greenwave dashed the Vikings hopes, beating them 14-1.

The Fallon team will play Faith Luthern at UNR on Saturday morning for the State Championship game.

The South Tahoe Vikings took their first championship bid a good distance, ending up third in the state.

According to STHS parent Sean Lynch, "They should be very proud of themselves. They will go down in the books as the first team from South Tahoe High to make it to the state tournament. They have already made a huge impact on the baseball program for South Tahoe since many kids who didn't sign up this year are already saying they want to sign up next year."
