Stockton man arrested in SLT on weapons charges

A Stockton, Calif., man was arrested in South Lake Tahoe on May 14 after allegedly being found with rifles modified to act like fully automatic machine guns, which is a felony.

Justin Wigley, 31, was arrested after officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department were investigating a case involving a gun being discharged at a motel in the 1100 block of Emerald Bay Road.

Initially, officers arrived at the motel to conduct a welfare check on a woman who was staying there. After an investigation, they found a gun had accidentally been discharged in her room after Wigley had been there showing the woman some guns.

Officers went to a home in the "Y" area where Wigley was visiting. They found the suspect outside the home in his car. He showed the officers his guns in the home and Wigley was subsequently arrested without incident.

He was jailed on three felony charges: Willful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, selling of or conversion of a machine gun, criminal storage of a fire arm in the first degree and misdemeanor charges of manufacturing of firearms without a license and manufacturing of large capacity magazine. He posted his $40,000 bail and plead not guilty in El Dorado County court on Friday.

Wigley's next court date is in July.
