South Lake Tahoe water restrictions now in place

As the severe drought in California continues, the following water restrictions and provisions of the South Tahoe Public Utility District Water Conservation Program and the California State Water Resources Control Board Emergency Water Conservation Regulation are mandatory to conserve water resources. Failure to comply may result in a fine.

RESTRICTIONS
• Outdoor irrigation may only occur between the hours of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and is limited to 20 minutes per zone per day, on your designated watering days. Drip or micro irrigation is exempt from this requirement;

• Water users are required to repair all leaks in plumbing or irrigation systems;

• Irrigating in a manner that causes runoff is prohibited;

• Irrigating non-landscaped, natural vegetation or undeveloped property is prohibited;

• Using a hose to wash a motor vehicle or for any other purpose is prohibited, except where the hose is fitted with a shut-off nozzle;

• Using potable water to wash driveways, sidewalks, parking areas, tennis courts, decks, patios and other improved areas is prohibited;

• Irrigating during and 48 hours following measurable precipitation is prohibited;

• Using potable water in a fountain or other decorative water feature is prohibited, except where the water is part of a recirculating system;

• Using potable water to irrigate ornamental turf on public street medians is prohibited;

• Using potable water to irrigate landscapes of new homes and buildings inconsistent with CBSC and DHCD requirements is prohibited.

ADDITIONAL COMMERICAL PROHIBITIONS
• Restaurants and other food service establishments can only serve water to customers upon request;

• Hotels and motels must provide guests with the option of not having towels and linens laundered daily.

Designated Watering Days Previously Established Continue in Effect:
Properties with street addresses ending with an even number shall irrigate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; properties with street addresses ending with an odd number shall irrigate on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. There will be no irrigation permitted on Saturday. Irrigation exclusively utilizing drip or other low-flow systems shall be exempt from designated irrigation days.

Exemptions:
No exemptions from the water restrictions shall be given, except to comply with Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s Best Management Practices (BMPs), necessary to address an immediate health and safety need or to comply with a term or condition in a permit issued by a state or federal agency or as determined by the District to be in the best interest in conserving water resources.

All water users are encouraged to report to the District all signs or indications of water leaks and water waste. You can report water leaks and waste by one of the following methods:
