Woman dies in Highway 50 accident near Glenbrook

An accident Wednesday morning near Glenbrook, NV claimed the life of a woman and her dog.

The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) is investigating the fatal accident which happened just after 8:30 a.m. June 3 on Highway 50 between Cave Rock and Glenbrook.

For unknown reasons, the woman, who was traveling north, went off the road, down a short embankment where the vehicle ran into rocks. She was traveling with her dog. Both the woman and the dog were pronounced dead at the scene.

South Tahoe Now came across the accident two hours later and the right hand lane was still closed off with numerous law enforcement officers still on the scene.

Trooper David Gibson of the NHP said the woman's name or hometown will not be released until next of kin is identified, perhaps by Thursday morning. He did say that she was driving a Silver Yukon.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt and there is no evidence that distracted driving was to blame. Investigators are are also looking into whether alcohol or drugs played a role but so far say that seems unlikely.
