Police arrest suspect for sexual assault in South Lake Tahoe

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) arrested 30-year-old Manuel Ramos Munoz after he confessed to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a young woman on Thursday, June 11.

After the early morning assault at the Big Pines Mountain House of Tahoe motel located on Cedar Avenue, SLTPD investigated the case throughout the day and identified Munoz as a potential suspect. Munoz, a resident and maintenance worker at the motel agreed to go to the police department voluntarily for questioning.

Munoz confessed to forcing the victim away from the motel to a secluded area where he cut her clothes off with his knife, to sexually assaulting her, and to several other relevant details about which only the perpetrator would be aware. After his confession, Munoz was arrested at the station at 10 p.m.

Detectives secured search warrants to cause a forensic medical examination of Munoz’ person, and to search of Munoz’ motel room. These searches occurred late last night and have revealed further evidence supporting the information reported by the victim in this case.

Munoz was charged with kidnapping for the purpose of committing a sexual assault, assault with the intent to commit rape, forcible oral copulation, penetration by foreign object, assault with a deadly weapon, uttering terrorist threats, & battery causing great bodily injury. All charges are felonies. Munoz was booked into El Dorado County Jail where he remains on Friday morning on $325,000 bail.
