Lake Tahoe Regional Update Plan comment period ends today

The initial comment period on the environmental study of the Lake Tahoe Regional Plan Update will close Thursday after a special two-day meeting of the Governing Board. However, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agencyencourages public input on the draft policy updates now and throughout the summer and fall as the update heads for a final decision by the TRPA Governing Board in December, according to the Agency.

While comments can be sent directly to TRPA at any time, those wishing to address the TRPA Board in person can do so Thursday, June 28, at the TRPA Board Room in Stateline. The meeting begins at 9 a.m.

The comment period covers the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed Regional Plan Update and Code of Ordinances as well as the Environmental Impact Statement/Report for the Regional Transportation Plan, Mobility 2035. See the RPU Fact Sheet below.

More than 160 comments have already been received on the technical analysis of the draft plan update, but the close of the the comment period is only part of the process to get to a final vote in December, according to TRPA.

“The draft plan is based on an unprecedented level of stakeholder input and TRPA has been listening,” TRPA Communications Specialist Jeff Cowen said. “The dialogue will continue throughout the year and we encourage everyone who cares for Lake Tahoe’s environment and communities to stay engaged in the update.”

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency cooperatively leads the effort to preserve, restore, and enhance the unique natural and human environment of the Lake Tahoe Region now and in the future. For additional information, call Jeff Cowen at (775) 589-5278 or send an email to jcowen@trpa.org.
