One person has died after being shot Saturday near the Y in South Lake Tahoe.

Just before 5:30 p.m. on June 30, 2018, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to the 1000 block of Julie lane after several calls were made into dispatch about shots fired.

Upon arrival, SLTPD found a victim who had sustained life threatening injuries. The officers began to render aid to the unidentified person and the victim was then transported to Barton Hospital. Upon arrival at the emergency room, the victim had succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased.

SLTPD SWAT and CNT (Crisis Negotiation Team) arrived at the scene, a home on the corner of B Street and Julie Lane near the entrance to Tahoe Verde Mobile Home Park. Several outside agencies also arrived to assist, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, Calfire, and California Parks.

The suspect was barricaded in a home at 1073 B Julie Lane.

The area was immediately cordoned off and residents in nearby homes were evacuated for their safety. There was no access to several blocks surrounding the scene for almost two hours. El Dorado County sent out a "robocall" to area residents, advising them to stay in their homes.

Officers used a beanbag gun, three pops were heard, then a flash bang (at 7:12 p.m.) in attempts to get the suspect out of the home. The home was surrounded and bullhorns were used to order the suspect out.

The suspect surrendered to officers and taken into custody without any further incidents.

This is an active investigation. There is currently no threat to the community as SLTPD has their only suspect in custody.

The gender, identity, age and hometown of the victim are not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

Next door to the home where the suspect was, a group of young vacationers were in town from Hawaii, Sacramento and the Bay Area. They were in the midst of relaxing and playing games when officers had them vacate the rental home and move away from the scene and down the street. Resident Jody Giafaglione invited the group of 12 into her home for the duration as many of them were shaken by the incident.

Once more details are available we will update this story.
