Thomas "Tom" Reid Meldahl ~ March 21, 1959 - June 11, 2022

Thomas "Tom" Reid Meldahl passed from this world on June 11, 2022, at the age of 63.

Born March 21, 1959, in Valparaiso, Ind. to Roger and Jacqueline Meldahl. Tom graduated from San Mateo High School in 1977, then graduated from CSU Chico with a BA in Business Administration in 1982. As a sergeant in the US Army, he spent time in Germany as a radio translator. He then moved to his beloved South Lake Tahoe in 1988, where he was a bartender at Harvey’s Resort and Casino for over 30 years.

Tom was a lover of nature and animals. He was an accomplished hiker, having conquered Mt. Whitney, Half Dome, and numerous other peaks and valleys. He loved outdoor activities such as bouldering, skiing, and camping and was always reading and learning more about the world. Countless hours were spent making improvements to his home. He enjoyed his 17 Hawaiian vacations with family exploring obscure locations and beaches and of course, a cold beer on the lanai. Tom was an intelligent, generous, and loyal man.

Tom would have wanted his family and friends to know, “He tried.”

Tom is survived by his loving wife Betty of South Lake Tahoe and their daughter Emily of Gardnerville, Nev. Sister Janet Casey and husband Chuck of Arlington Heights, Ill., and sister Lynn Moran and husband Ken of Carlsbad, Calif. Mother-in-law Leona Carlin, sister-in-law Nan Ivanoff and husband Don, brother-in-law Jerry Carlin and wife Joan. Nieces and nephews Tim Casey, Kris Millard, Cameron and Jason Moran, and Megan Hatfield. Tom is predeceased by his father Roger, mother Jackie, and brother Mark.

Tom will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and dogs Stella, Lilly, and Willow.

At his request, there will be no services. However, a Celebration of Life will be planned in the future. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in his name to the Sierra Club, ASPCA, or your favorite nature or animal charity.
