Nevada Side of South Lake Tahoe Sees Orderly Crowds, Early Morning Stabbing

Overall, the 4th of July was busy but things went pretty well according to Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini. "A lot of people enjoyed the 4th in Lake Tahoe," he said. "We scheduled a lot of deputies to handle the extra crowds and didn't see a lot of problems. We managed well and were prepared."

Nevada Beach has been an alcohol free beach for the holiday since the 1990s which is something Sheriff Pierini said needed to be done. "Having that ordinance made a big difference," he said.

"The 4th of July is busier for Douglas County than New Years," according to Pierini. He said it was good to see so many people out having fun.

There were a few arrests on Friday, mainly due to the DUI/Traffic Violation checkpoint which made up about half of the 26 arrests. Many of those arrested were put into protective custody which happens when people are too drunk to take care of themselves safely. DCSO will house those people until sober. They saw disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct arrests in the casinos.

At 6 a.m. Saturday there was a stabbing in a Stateline casino according to Pierini. It is still under investigation and names have not been released, but known details show that two men were arguing over a woman and one man stabbed the other. The victim was transported to Renown Medical Center with minor injuries. DCSO deputies responded quickly and arrested the other.
