Patrols on South Lake Tahoe beaches over the 4th of July were meant to keep the beaches drug and alcohol free so people wanting to enjoy the holiday in a safe environment could do so. "We received words of support from families with our patrols," Nancy Gibson, USFS Forest Supervisor, told South Tahoe Now. "They now have confidence that families can feel safer during the holiday."

Gibson was thankful for the gracious support from El Dorado County Probation, CA State Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), El Dorado County Sheriff's Special Enforcement Team who spent the day on the beaches with the Forest Service. She said there was a strong presence of people who care about the people enjoying the beach and Lake Tahoe. The groups patrolled Baldwin Beach, Kiva Beach, Pope Beach and Ski Beach. All had previously been the seen of large underage drinking parties and open drug use.

Even though there were citations issued, Gibson said she was very pleased about how few incidents there were when compared to the past. "Past activities concerned me and the Forest Service wants family to be safe and have fun," Gibson said. "We spent the day walking the beaches in uniform and people appreciated that."
