Expect smoke from Washburn Fire over Lake Tahoe again Sunday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Washburn Fire burning in Yosemite is bringing smoke into the Lake Tahoe Basin Sunday morning, leaving some unhealthy air quality readings throughout the region.

The AQI this morning is 151 in some recording spots in South Lake Tahoe but most of the town is in the "unhealthy for sensitive group" range. During the day, the winds at the fire area will move the fire to a more northwesterly direction towards Sacramento before it moved over Lake Tahoe.

The Washburn Fire is now 1591 acres and burning in the southern region of Yosemite. It is burning timber and brush - mostly high load conifer litter with heavy dead and down components as well as substantial standing dead. It is burning in difficult terrain. Of significant importance is preventing or minimizing fire impacting to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
