Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe a winner at Korbel's Closest to the Pin Contest

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - During Saturday's second round of the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe, the Korbel Closest to the Pin contest on No. 17 was a big winner for the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe.

Each year the tournament and Korbel select a local nonprofit to win the proceeds from the challenge for who can hit from the tee and get closest to the pin. If one of the celebrity contestants makes a hole-in-one, there is a $250,000 grand prize to be split with $125,000 going home with the celebrity, and $125,000 to the selected charity. If a player gets within two feet of the hole, a $25,000 prize is split between the winning celebrity and the charity.

Today, four-division world champion boxer Canelo Alvarez was closest to the pin at 13'1" away.

Behind Canelo was Derrick Lowe at 14'5", actor Michael Pena was 17'1" from the hole, AJ Hawk at 28', Patrick Mahomes at 29'1" and Alfonso Ribeiro was 51'1" from the flag.

This year NBC and Korbel decided to award the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe $12,500, even though the closest ball didn't fall into the prize ranges for the 2020 tournament.

Past charity winners have been Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, Tahoe Prosperity Center, Tahoe Fund, SOS Outreach, Douglas County Search and Rescue, Tahoe Tallac Association and Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation.
