Sierra Alphorn Players at next Tahoe History Talks on the Beach

Event Date:
July 19, 2022 - 7:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join the Lake Tahoe Historical Society at Lakeview Commons on Tuesday, July 19 for its next "Tahoe History Talks on the Beach." The Sierra Alphorn Players will be featured with their music and stories about the alphorn. The event is on the lake side of the Commons and is from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Sierra Alphorn Players are a local ensemble of Swiss mountain horn musicians who will be performing traditional Swiss pieces along with French, Italian, and German music dating from the 18th through 20th centuries.

Originally, the alphorn was used by shepherds to call their cows from pasture and to communicate with other herdsmen in the neighboring Alps.

Included in the evening's performance will be a history of the origin of this wind instrument.

The event is free but gratuities for the performers are welcome.
