ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - A San Francisco Bay Area man drowned in Lake Tahoe Tuesday afternoon after spending a day swimming with friends at Zephyr Cove.

Emergency personnel from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) responded to a water rescue call at the beach at 4:03 p.m. on July 16, 2019.

A 34-year-old man had been pulled from the water at the north end of Zephyr Cove and bystanders, including a nurse, were attempting to revive him with CPR. Deputies took over until paramedics arrived and all life-saving measures continued during the transport to Barton Memorial Hospital. A DCSO vehicle led the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

The man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced deceased by attending physicians. There are unconfirmed reports he was in law enforcement in the Bay Area.

According to TDFPD Fire Marshal Eric Guevin, paramedics responded to the same beach a week ago where a man swimming with friends was unresponsive and pulled to the shore. The friends were able to revive him with CPR and the near-drowning victim refused transport to the hospital
