Joe Theismann wins Korbel's 8th Annual Celebrity Spray Off at Edgewood Tahoe

Champagne was flowing on the 18th tee Friday as 29 of the celebrity golfers participating in the 25th Annual American Century Championship proved their skill in something other than golf.

As celebrity superstars prepared to tee off on the 18th hole, Korbel challenged them to show off their best champagne celebration skills as part of the Celebrity Spray-Off. Former NFL MVP Joe Theismann took home top honors after he popped the cork on a bottle of Korbel and his cork traveled the furthest distance - 87ft.

Close behind finishing in second place was retired 10-time LPGA Champion Annika Sorenstam who shook the bottle of Korbel in style before launching the cork 84ft. In third place was Former NFL Head Coach Herm Edwards with a 79ft blast followed by fourth place finisher NBA All-Star Guard Stephen Curry. The celebrities joined forces with Korbel to participate in the Spray-Off which is judged on cork distance (although style and champagne spray added to the excitement for the fans).

Although he was not crowned a champion, NFL Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Jerry Rice kept the spectators laughing with his signature dance moves. Comedian Larry the Cable Guy, NHL Forward T.J. Oshie and Former MLB All-Star Chipper Jones won over the crowd with their exciting champagne sprays and long distance corks. While some of baseball’s greatest legends David Wells and John Smoltz hit it out of the park.

“Korbel has been toasting the American Century Championship for years and we’re excited to be back for this great event with our great partners,” said Gary Heck, owner and president of Korbel Champagne Cellars. “The Celebrity Spray-Off is a chance for the players to have fun for a great cause through the Korbel Toast Life Foundation.”
