Woman airlifted to Reno after Lake Tahoe boating accident

Updated Story 7/25/16:

A 22-year-old woman from Oregon is in serious condition at Renown Medical Center in Reno after having her leg caught in the propeller of a boat on Lake Tahoe Sunday afternoon. The boat with twin propellers had been pulling her on an innertube, but upon re-entering the boat the unidentified woman's legs were caught in the props.

An emergency call went into 911 at 12:35 p.m., but the information about the location was conflicting and significantly delayed first responders. After about 40 minutes, El Dorado County deputies on board Marine 3 arrived and jumped into the water to free the woman from the propellers. She was unconscious at that time.

The South Lake Tahoe Police boat, Marine 1, also responded to the scene where they started life-saving measures on the woman. Responding personnel made makeshift tourniquets and brought the unidentified woman into the shore at Tahoe Beach Retreat with significant injuries according to Sgt. Travis Cabral of SLTPD.

A medical helicopter was called and landed in the intersection of Highway 50 and Johnson Blvd, the closest area to the accident where it could land. The woman was transported to Renown Medical Center.

Several agencies responded to the emergency including Marine 1 from South Lake Tahoe, Marine 3 from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, Marine 7 from Douglas County Sheriff's office, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

No other details about the severity of the victim's injuries have been officially released at this time.

The incident is under investigation by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Boating Safety Unit.
