Former City employee loses wrongful termination lawsuit

The South Lake Tahoe City Council agreed to a settlement agreement on Tuesday with former City employee Stan Sherer who had sued for wrongful termination in 2013. He claimed that his termination was based on age discrimination.

According to documents received by South Tahoe Now, the City was cleared of any wrongdoing and is not required to pay anything to Sherer, including attorney's fee. In turn, the City has agreed to not sue Sherer who served as the Community Services Director for 18 months beginning in January 2011.

In the dismissal, Sherer "agrees that defendants (Nancy Kerry and the City)shall make no monetary payment to him in exchange for his dismissal of the complaint with prejudice." The signed agreement also stated that "it shall not be construed in any way as an admission of any unlawful or wrongful acts against" Sherer or the City.

The agreement, signed by City Manager Nancy Kerry, Tom Watson City Attorney and Stan Sherer, provided a confidentiality clause where terms were not to be disclosed, but the document is available for public viewing.

Neither party is being accused of wrong doing per the filed document.

The agreement states, "The Parties agree that each will not make any disparaging statement or engage in any other form of disparagement, derogatory activity, or other similar behavior with respect to any other party or Related parties , including the City of South Lake Tahoe's City Council members, employees and agents, from the date of this agreement forward, without limitation."
