South Lake Tahoe Fire Department responds to two small fires and diving accident

Two fires were quickly extinguished by the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department in the early hours on Sunday.

In the first incident, a fire was reported off Echo Road behind the power substation near the Stateline Raley's. When firefighters arrived at about 12:20 a.m., they found five foot flames coming from what was later determined to be an illegal campfire at a transient person's camp. They quickly cut a line around the fire and contained it to a 10 foot square.

At 3:20 a.m. Sunday, firefighters responded to a stove fire at the Forest Inn and Suites near Stateline. The fire was quickly put out and the motel room suffered no structural damage. Due to the possibility of a major incident, several fire engines and ambulances responded.

On August 1, a 21 year old woman was seriously injured when she dove off the Timber Cove Pier into shallow water at approximately 6:30 p.m. Employees from the Timber Cove Marina were pulling her to shore as the first paramedics arrived. SLT Fire Chief Jeff Meston said he was very impressed and appreciative of the Timber Cove employee's level of care and professionalism and that their actions truly made a difference in saving the young woman's life.

She was transported to Heavenly Valley Ski Resort where she was moved into a Care Flight helicopter and transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Her name was not released and current condition is unknown.
