El Dorado County safety personnel kept busy on South Shore

Wednesday and Thursday were very busy for local safety personnel and volunteers in El Dorado County as they responded to four search and rescue calls and another call concerning suspicious gunshots.

At noon Wednesday, August 9, Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers were initially told a male hiker on the Tahoe Rim Trail near Freel Peak was suffering from an allergic reaction to peanuts. The victim was able to walk out to awaiting rescuers near Willow Creek Road below Horse Thief Canyon.

At 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, SAR received a call of an injured mountain biker on a trail above homes on Mule Deer Circle on the Angora Ridge. Lake Valley Fire/Medics also responded and helped the victim with their leg injury and they were then carried off the mountain on a litter basket.

Early Thursday morning the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office was called about suspicious shots fired in a neighborhood off of Beaver Brae. A deputy arrived on scene and viewed a shot being fired, according to Sgt. Tasha Thompson. The deputy could not see who fired it or exactly where it came from. He was then further advised from a resident on Beaver Brae, that they had seen a subject walking in the area as shots were being fired. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate who fired the shot. No more shots were heard or reported to EDSO.

Also early Thursday morning, SAR received a report of a juvenile having possibly asthma emergency with chest pain and numbness to the arm. Caller had to hiketwo miles to get a phone call out. By the time rescuers got to the juvenile his condition and symptoms had diminished and he was found asleep in his tent. Mother and victim declined any medical attention and rescuers hiked out.

SAR was again called out Thursday to the Eagle Falls Trail after receiving a report of a 64-year-old female with a lower leg injury. Victim had to be carried out using a litter basket.
