Deadline extended for filing papers to run for South Lake Tahoe City Council

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, calif. - The deadline to run for South Lake Tahoe City Council has been extended since not all incumbents have chosen to seek reelection.

The original deadline to file was August 12, and if not all incumbents filed, the deadline would be extended by one week. South Lake Tahoe Mayor Devin Middlebrook chose not to run again, so the deadline is now August 17 to file.

Incumbents Tami Wallace and Cody Bass are running for city council again, and they are joined by David Jinkens, Joby Cefalu, Chantelle Schenning, Scott Robbins, Brad Jacobson, Nicole Ramirez Thomas and Nick Speal. There are a total of three open seats on the council.

The incumbents for City Clerk, Susan Blankenship, and City Treasurer, David Olivo, filed reelection papers so the deadline to file has passed.

Nomination papers are issued by the City Clerk and may be obtained at City Hall, City Clerk’s Office, 1901 Lisa Maloff Way, South Lake Tahoe, during normal business hours. Appointments are strongly encouraged.

November 8 is election day.

To be eligible to run for a City Elected Official position, persons must be a registered voter of the City of South Lake Tahoe at the time nomination papers are issued.

Registered voters in South Lake Tahoe must be U.S. Citizens, reside within the City of South Lake Tahoe city limits, 18 years of age or older on the date of the election, and not in prison or on parole for a felony conviction.

The City of South Lake Tahoe does not have a filing fee. However, there is a
charge for candidates who wish to file and have printed a Candidate Statement in the sample ballot. The fee, determined by the El Dorado County Registrar of Voters, is $395 for English and an additional $491 for Spanish.
