SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are four light posts along US 50 between Trout Creek and Alameda Avenue that have been switched to two different color temperatures of Dark Sky light bulbs.
The City of South Lake Tahoe is asking the public to visit the two sites and vote on which ones they prefer. There are QR codes posted to the light poles so voting can take place directly from smartphones.
If you are unable to vote via phone, email your choice of Light A or Light B to publicrelations@cityofslt.us.
Site A: Between Los Angeles & Trout Creek Ave
Site B: Across from Alameda Ave
The City plans on changing the street lights along US50 to reduce the impact of light pollution while also keeping the streets safe for everyone.
During a City Council meeting last year, a representative from the International Dark-Sky Association spoke to them to see if there was interest in combating light pollution and allowing the night sky to be darker, while still safe. The night sky, filled with stars, is celebrated and protected around the world as a shared heritage benefitting all living things.
